ihu oneone

hard worker

He ihu oneone ō tātou kaiako.
Our teachers are such hard workers.
- this is an example of a classifying sentence

‘Ihu oneone’ literally means ‘dirt nose’ and is used to describe an industrious person. The metaphor derives from those working the land back in the day: they wipe their sweat from their faces and their noses are marked with the dirt from their hard-working hands.
