I kōrero te koroua ki tāna tahu.
The old man spoke to his love.
- this is an example of an active sentence

kōrero always takes 'ki' rather than 'i'.

Kua kōrerotia te tamaiti e tōna kaiako.
The child has been spoken to by his/her teacher.
- this is an example of a passive sentence

Ka kōrero ia ki te kuramāhita.
She will speak to the headmaster.
- this is an example of an active sentence

Kei te kōrerotia ia e te kuramāhita.
She is being spoken to by the headmaster
- this is an example of a passive sentence
