whiwhi(a)

to receive, to be awarded

I whiwhi ia i te karahipi.
He received the scholarship.
- this is an example of an active sentence

Riro is another word meaning received but it is a stative verb. Riro is preferred to whiwhi when you're stuck with the result! You would probably whiwhi a book. Either could be used for a scholarship.
